Snowy Bandits

The first thick snow settled over the town park muffling the usual sounds of the town and dusting the bare branches with a festive white. The air was still and cold, the kind of stillness where every little sound seemed amplified. All of a sudden three little raccoons, one then two then three of them. They were fluffy and curious, their masked faces twitced with interest. A brave one even scrambled onto the edge of the bench, peering intently at me with bright beady eyes, the other one sat upright on my lap. The gentle sounds of their quiet chittering broke the silence, a soft accompaniment to the falling snow. For a time the park was not empty or lonely.
